Rocket Knight

After some good episodes on 16-bit, many people were disappointed not to hear from the opossum. The gameplay, based on his mini-jet pack that allowed him to leapfrog into the air a short time, was entertaining and original. In addition, the series had a slight storyline, quite rare for games platforms of the time. This new episode has so much to do, seeing as it was by a bunch of fans. Fortunately for them, Konami has decided to play the card of continuity by keeping 2D gameplay. Sparkster is always accompanied by his jet-pack through which it can propel itself in all directions, but also bounce off walls to cover more distance. It also has a gun attack and a twist that allows him to avoid being hit and even send some shots. All these skills are pumping the same gauge of energy that recharges over time. Add to that a sword for melee attacks and we will have almost made the rounds of possible actions.

The problem is that once in the game, you quickly realize that one does not need to play strategically. Indeed, one can not really fully bourrines encounter difficulties. You can very well get away with propel you forward while avoiding enemies, and it even seems that this is the best solution. The interest thus falls at once, making the action somewhat muddled. However, advancing in the game, we finally find some interesting phases where it shows platforms with switches, or when to escape pursued by an explosion that grew gradually. Some passages sympatic, although they are far too rare. To diversify, there are some courses where the shooter must include avoiding spicy balls, but these stages are downright boring and do not represent the masses of interest.

But the real problems of Rocket Knight is his life. It is a mere hour and a half to finish the software in its first game! Not only the game is terribly short, but the appearance of checkpoints every three meters makes things too much. Only fighting against bosses can be complicated at first attempt, but once we understood the technique, we get out of the fingers in the nose. Once the game is over you can always redo each level separately to try the high-score, since many factors such as speed, combos, or the gems collected here and there come into consideration in the final calculation, but not what will make up the stroke. In summary, Rocket Knight is not the success expected and we can only stay on our hunger. The most serious is that this game is sold at 13 euros, which is extremely expensive given the content and gaming experience fans will be disappointed to miss the return of the opossum coolest the planet.
